NOVA PDO Thread Lift Q & A

How do NOVA PDO Thread Lifts work?

Are you worried about facial skin laxity, such as drooping cheeks and jowls?  For patients with mild to moderate, rather than severe skin laxity, may be candidates for our Nova PDO Thread Lift. We use Nova Threads, which are FDA approved, and have been formulated to be safely reabsorbed by the body.  They remain about 4-6 months and patients can continue to see results for a year or more as well as leaving a corrective collagen to support the face.

What are the benefits?

To address facial skin laxity, such as jowls and drooping cheeks, PDO threads can help produce a subtle, but visible lift to those areas.  The loose skin is not removed, but instead the threads are used to pull the skin back slightly and therefore aid in lifting the face.  Another benefit is it helps to combat aging by stimulating the body’s “healing response” and the body directs large surges of collagen to treated areas.  Collagen is one of the essential building blocks and supports the growth factors in our skin to combat the aging process.

What do I need to know about the procedure?

The advantage of a thread lift over a traditional facelift is the recovery time.  Thread lifts are performed under local, rather than general anesthesia, and patients can drive themselves home after the procedure and go about their daily routines. You will need to take care of your face while cleansing and should keep your head propped up when sleeping.  Thread lifts are considered to be low risk because they are non-invasive.  You will need to book a consult with Dr. Ness to see if you would be a candidate for this procedure.  The thread lift is for patients, who are dealing with mild to moderate, rather than severe, skin laxity.

How long do results last?

The results will typically last one to three years.  The material dissolves by itself, but the results of the increased collagen will continue to produce results.  A filler product may be used either prior to the threads or on the same day (if a different planes/area).  This gives a very complete look and is called a “Liquid Facelift”.
