Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Mircroneeding is sometimes known as skin needling, collagen induction therapy (CIT), or percutaneous collagen induction (PCI). This treatment can rejuvenate your skin by eliminating scars, stretch marks, and areas of high pigmentation. Microneedling also helps tighten up loose skin and shrink large pores.

During a microneedling procedure, Dr. Ness uses a special tool that contains several small needles. He applies the tool to your skin, creating many small punctures in the skin's surface. The microneedling process stimulates cell turnover and collagen production.

How can microneedling improve the appearance of my skin?

Boosting collagen production makes your skin appear tighter, firmer, and younger. Microneedling treatments can also help with:

  • Loose skin
  • Sun damage
  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Wrinkles
  • Fine lines

Microneedling is most often used on the face, but you can also receive microneedling on other areas of your body, such as the stomach, hips, or thighs.

This treatment can be an ideal option for patients struggling with severe scarring due to cystic acne, chicken pox, or other skin conditions. But microneedling may not be safe for patients with certain medical conditions.

Before receiving a microneedling treatment at Delta Aesthetics, you meet with Dr. Ness for an in-depth consultation. During the consultation, Dr. Ness examines your skin and reviews your medical history to determine if microneedling is right for you.

Dr. Ness may suggest other treatments you can use alongside or in place of microneedling. Delta Aesthetics offers a wide variety of cosmetic procedures, including Botox®, dermal fillers, facials, peels, and more. No matter what your aesthetic goals, Dr. Ness and his team can provide the care you need.

What happens during a microneedling procedure?

Most patients receive 4-6 microneedling treatments spaced several weeks apart. Before your procedure begins, Dr. Ness or his aesthetician cleans your skin and applies a topical anesthetic. Next, they run the dermal roller over your skin to create tiny punctures.

After the procedure is complete, Dr. Ness or a staff member may apply a collagen-enhancing serum to give your skin an extra boost. You can receive microneedling alone or with the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) procedure.

What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP)?

During a PRP procedure, Dr. Ness removes a small amount of your blood. He then uses special equipment to isolate unique growth factors in your blood which can help heal injured tissues. This concentrated material is known as platelet-rich plasma.

Dr. Ness injects the PRP back into your face to repair damaged skin and increase collagen production. This type of procedure can produce dramatically firmer, brighter, younger-looking skin.
